what's difference between tube and pipe?

The primary difference between a pipe and a tube is their application: pipes convey fluids/gases using Nominal Pipe Size (NPS) and schedule for wall thickness, while tubes are used for structural, mechanical, and heat transfer applications, ordered by precise outside diameter (OD) and gauge thickness. Pipes are always round and measured by inside diameter (ID), whereas tubes can be square, rectangular, or round, and measured by OD
